>> CHILDREN: Premier League Primary Stars!

>> CHILD 1: This activity is called Rapid Retrieve.

>> CHILD 2: And we learned to track and return a ball.

>> CHILD 3: And we worked as a team.

>> COACH: This game gives children the opportunity to practice their fielding and retrieval skills. It's played in groups of six or eight, the children play in pairs, and they rotate the roles of batter, fielder and runner. Pupils will learn to track a ball and retrieve it, return a ball with accuracy. You will need three hitting tees, but we are using cones, three balls, two flat markers, two bats or rackets, cones for marking the area. This game is called Rapid Retrieve. You're gonna be working in a team. You're gonna be using your retrieval skills to field the ball back. One of you is going to bat the ball away from the three cones there or tees. One of you is going to be running backwards and forwards to score a point. The rest of the team is to field and retrieve the ball back to the batting tee. One of you might go into that circle and be a wicketkeeper or backstop. The rest of you have to field the balls in. Okay, looking at where that ball is going, track it with your eyes. I step, I pick up, same foot, same hand for retrieving. I turn my chest towards the target, and I throw back at the target.

[BACKGROUND MUSIC]

>> COACH: This thing that develops is communication skills, how they have to work as a team and as a pair, and they had to change roles all the time. What skill did you use when you had to retrieve the ball?

>> CHILD 4: You had to make sure you lunged and pivoted around and aimed well.

>> COACH: Rapid Retrieve, it's a great game. We had to adapt it because it was raining outside, but it was fantastic to work indoors. It was easy to adapt, the children had great fun.

>> CHILD 4: I could do it again and again.

>> COACH: There're loads of opportunities to make it more challenging. You can use a variety of different equipment. You can use larger teams. You can use a greater number of teams as well.
