In January, we proudly launched our challenge in partnership with Sky Ocean Rescue about the simple changes everyone can make to help stop the oceans drowning in plastic, giving schools the chance to win some amazing prizes.

The Sky Ocean Rescue campaign #PassOnPlastic aims to shine a spotlight on the issues affecting ocean health, find innovative solutions to the problem of ocean plastics, and inspire people to make small everyday changes that collectively make a huge difference.

Premier League Primary Stars and Sky teamed up to inspire pupils to reduce single-use plastics.

We set primary schools a challenge to help tackle ocean plastic pollution at school or in their local community.

Key information

We asked you to decide on a group pledge that will really make a difference by:

• Working as a class or whole school.
• Discussing your ideas together.
• Agreeing on one group pledge.
• Writing your pledge on the pledge template
• Describing your pledge in no more than 100 words.
• Ensuring your pledge adhered to the OCEAN acronym.

O - choose just one thing to do or change
C - be clear about what it is
E - make it easy – everybody should be able to do this if they want to
A - ensure it is something achievable (make it realistic)
N - know your next steps to get ready to carry out your pledge

We also asked you to carry out your group pledge and take an action photo. The photograph needed to evidence the pledge being carried out or capture what you did and show how it was successful. Schools could choose how they would best like to demonstrate this, for example a ‘before and after’ shot.

• Entries should have been led by pupils in Key Stage 2 at schools in England and Wales
• Entries needed to be submitted by the deadline of Friday 22 March 2019.
• One entry was allowed per class.
• Only entries uploaded to the website using the online form were entered into the prize draw.

Although this competition has now closed, you can still use our supporting resource pack to encourage children to get involved, learn about what Premier League clubs are doing about this issue and the role everyone can play in protecting both the local and global environment. You need to register to access these resources - it's free and really quick to do.

Prizes

Each school that entered received a certificate and a #PassOnPlastic icon for their school website.

The first 100 schools who submitted an entry received a class set of reusable water bottles.

Ten schools won a special visit to the Sky Academy Studios in London to make a film about their pledge.

One lucky school was visited by Plasticus, the Sky Ocean Rescue whale, and the Premier League Trophy.

Winners were announced in April 2019.
